เนื้อหาย่อ : In the years since the first edition was written, there have been several changes in the content of mathematics courses; the basic premises, however, have remained essentially the same. We find that, as it was several years ago, the non-science majors in mathematics still need a solid background in fundamentals even though they did have the material in high school courses. In this edition we have updated the presentation by chang- ing the order of the chapters, adding new units, deleting some sections, and changing the approach on others. The flow of con- cepts from Chapter 1 through Chapter 7 makes it a more teach- ble one-term course from the standpoint of the developn the real numbers. The chapter on statistics was largely rewritten to give a more fluent approach and to provide simpler examples. Also, it was placed at the end of the text, partly because some calculus is used and partly because it is an optional, rather than equired, topic for most users of the book. The two chapters the calculus were given a major rewrite to make the material more readable for the student.
