เนื้อหาย่อ : It is the aim of AUTO MECHANICS FUNDAMENTALS to provide the student with a thorough under standing of the Design, Construction, and Operation of Automotive Units. This text has many unusual features. Each automotive unit is approached by starting with the basic theory involved. As the ex- planation unfolds, parts are added until the unit is complete. By following this procedure, each unit has real purpose, and its relationship to the complete car is made clear. A build-it-your self approach is used in a number of areas. The student "builds" on paper, the units being described. This stimulates student interest, and facilitates understanding of the basic principles involved, which are so essential in learning the HOW and WHY of auto mechanics. A clear and concise summary is provided at the close of each chapter. Provided also, are thought provoking questions which test the student's comprehension and retention, and determine the extent of his grasp of the over-all picture involved. Hundreds of illustrations were drawn especially for this text. In these specially drawn illus- trations important areas are featured. Many are exaggerated in order to place emphasis on parts being discussed. Nonrelated, unimportant features are minimized, or completely removed. This assists greatly in getting points across. Math, physics, chemistry, electricity, magnetism and hydraulics, are covered right in the text, WHERE they apply. Words that may stump the student have been defined immediately following the words. The glossary of terms in the back of the book defines terms with which the student should be familiar, even includes hot rod terms. Every effort has been made to retain the student's keen interest. safetyprecaution and sae working Practices ae stressed where jobs involving possibility of serious accident are discussed. In this way, safety instruction becomes meaningful. The stu- dent will better understand and appreciate the value of Safety. Most chapters include a brief "shop talk" aimed at pointing up the value of proper attitudes, good work and study habits, and the relationship between these, and job success; An entire chapter is devoted to exploring job possibilities, and obtaining additional training auto mechanics. Advantages of graduating, compared to the plight of the "drop-out" are pointed out. An attempt is made to develop pride in the trade, and an awareness of the impor- mance of the auto mechanics trade.
