Most automotive engines on the market today are high performance engines in one ect or another. Because it takes a certain degree of skill to tune these engin performance and efficiency the flat rate charged for repairs is very high. To keep customer ills at a minimum the mechanic must know what he is doing, perform repairs sk and do his work in the shortest time possible. These three points are very important in hing a reputation for knowledgeable,efficient service. The oscilloscop any other aid available, will help the tune-up technician provide this type of service. The main value of the oscilloscope is that it gives instantaneous voltage readings at any t in the ignition circuit at any selected time. The scope also gives indicat functions in the combustion chamber. The oscilloscope is the only diagnostic instrument that performs both of these functions. The technician should realize that, even though the oscilloscope performs many diag- tions by itself, it should be used in conjunction with other test instrumen mple, when the scope indicates a leaky valve, the condition should be ve compression gage. Study, practice, and a desire to be successful in his field will help the average mechanic become an expert technician. Mastering the use of an oscilloscope and knowing how to use other testing equipment with it, are required skills of the technician.
