เนื้อหาย่อ : After over two decades, I have returned to this text. I have done so with much council from many instructors who have used the book during various portions of this long time interval. Furthermore, ideas have come to me from teaching the first fluids course over many years. The result has led to many major Foremost, one can now give a more elementary and practical first course with this second edition as compared with the first edition. For instance, one need not develop pipe-flow equations via the Navier-Stokes equations, because herein is a separate, practical chapter (Chap. 8) on pipe flow. The Navier- Stokes equations are now in a starred chapter* (Chap. 9), which has a much more caretul and detailed development than was the case in the first edition. Instructors who want to develop all viscous laminar flows via Navier-Stokes can obviously still do so. As a second example, the chapter on boundary-layer flow (Chap. 10) has been completely revamped and expanded to be of more direct use for solving vital, interesting problems. In the first edition, there were 20 homework prob- lems and no examples for this chapter. In this edition there are 73 problems and 11 examples involving helicopters, autogyros, wind turbine blades, ships, and ground-effects machines, to name some areas. As another example, the chapter on free surface flow (Chap. 12) has been completely rewritten and expanded. The mathematics is now presented on a less sophisticated level, and a more practical approach containing no fewer than 11 *Starred material may be deleted with no loss in conti changes.
