เนื้อหาย่อ : Designing for manufacture is a vital ingredient of successful engineering design
because it is concerned with economy - manufacturing the product in the quickest,
cheapest and most convenient manner. It is an aspect which is frequently overlooked
at the outset of the design operation, with the result that alterations are required
when the production process has begun.
The object of this book is to create a critical approach to a design: to subject a
proposed (or existing) design to an economic analysis in terms of the manufacturing
conditions. This involves a knowledge of production processes such as casting,
forging and machining ; a full appreciation of the capabilities and, particularly, the
limitations of these processes; and an anticipation of the procedure involved in the
assembly, dismantling and re-assembly of a machine.
This book is suitable for the designing for manufacture content in design engineering
courses for CNAA degree, HNC and HND, and for Mechanical Engineering
Technician students. Designers and production engineers in industry will also find
the book of interest.
This is the fourth volume in the Topics in Engineering Design series. The previous
three are Ball and Parallel Roller Bearings: Design Application by H Peck ; Durability
and Reliability in Engineering Design by G Kivenson; and Valve Design by G
Pearson. Other volumes are in preparation.
H Peck is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering,
North Staffordshire Polytechnic.
