เนื้อหาย่อ : Chemistry is the study of all the materials which make up our world-their properties, their occurrence, and the changes which take place in them when their environment is changed. Chemistry is also concerned with how these vari- ous materials may be purified, combined, analyzed, and syn- thesized, and with how they may be put to use by man. The rapidly changing technological society in which we live makes it important that a text present a solid theoretical framework for the detailed study of any science. We have attempted to present the science of chemistry within such a framework. Concepts and principles relating the chemical and physical properties of matter are presented early in the text. These ideas are then reinforced by their reintroduction in appropriate discussions later in the text. The factual data in the text has been compiled from the latest sources, and is presented in a clear, accurate, and up-to-date manner. The authors are indebted to their students and colleagues for their contributions.
