เนื้อหาย่อ : the present text, special consideration has been given t creased use of the metric system, and the necessity of its use in vocational occupations. Chapter Five now presents the fundamentals of Algebra in such a way that the student can apply these basic principles in many different situations. The arrangement of material is intended to increase the under- standing for the student and increase the convenience for the instructor. Thinking precedes execution of any problem or job. Therefore, things to be thought are on the left side of the page; the things to be done appear opposite them on the right side of the page. Examples have been presented in sufficient number to clarify each of the steps in a procedure or problem and to enable the student to move ahead steadily and with assurance. In the more immediate technical work of the shop, nomenclature, practices and procedures have been made to conform to practices accepted by industry. The text lays the groundwork for the application of mathematics to problems by explaining in simple language the fundamentals of arithmetic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Emphasis is then given to basic problems arising in the building trades, the electrical shop, and the machine shop. Every opportunity has been taken to make the mathematics grow out of shop situations, and to have the student use his mathematics in connection with vocational activities. A multitude of standard trade and technical terms and symbols are introduced and used, and over 700 drawings, sketches, and photographs are included. Drawings and sketches are presented in orthographic projection, and in isometric and cabinet drawings to give the student wide experience in reading and interpreting these different forms. The skilled worker is called upon to use tables and materials from handbooks. Some practice in the use of tables is given in the text. To further provide practice, several important and useful tables are included in the Appendix.
