เนื้อหาย่อ : Preface This book is designed for a foundation technical mathematics course as offered in colleges and technical institutes. It presents contemporary coverage of the basic mathematics essential for the technician in engineering and scientific fields. The recommendations of engineering educators and studies, such as the Michigan Study, on the present and future needs of technicians were used as a basis for the content, organization, and develop- ment of the subject matter. Assuming that the student has a certain degree of competency in ele- mentary arithmetic, Introductory Mathematics for Technicians presents the techniques and applications of computational methods, elementary algebra, geometric concepts, and the trigonometry of the right triangle. Mastery of these topics will give the student proficiency in performing directed calcula- tions of some complexity, by the use of the slide rule, tables of functions of numbers, logarithmic tables, or trigonometric tables. Also the student will be adequately prepared for training in elementary programming of electronic desk calculators or computers. Besides calculations, the student will have developed the ability to use formulas and perform algebraic manipulations pertaining to problems met in industrial practice, and he will have the ability to solve problems by applications of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry of the right triangle. n completion of this course, the student becomes immedia oyable in some technologies; second, he is prepared for certai matically based technical courses such: as surveying, physics, and hydraulics; and third, he is prepared for an advanced course in technical mathematics required by other engineering or scientific fields. This book, then, develops the basic skills that are needed by technicians in all classifications. Salient features that distinguish this text from others currently available are: (1) The broadest possible up-to-date coverage of material likely to be en- countered by a technician in modern industry. ) Ample and adequate problem sets following each topic and desig to provide at least one homework assignment and one classroom assignment on each topic. For important subjects, additional prob- s are provided for two periods or more. Problems are g difficulty and matched so that the series with answers parallel those without answers. (3) Verbal problems are provided for most topics, to the maximum extent ssible, and are based generally upon actual industrial relati Sketches are used when the real situation would indicate that the gineer or scientist in charge would give a sketch to his ted assistant.
