เนื้อหาย่อ : It has long been recognized that the skilled welder is not only competent in
the manipulative skills of his trade, but must be equally competent in his ability to
interpret the trade drawings which describe the work he must do. This instructional
material, BLUEPRINT READING FOR WELDERS, has been developed to meet the
specific needs of the welder in the area of drawing interpretation.
Beyond the ability to interpret conventional trade drawings, the welder must
also be thoroughly familiar with the use of welding symbols as standardized by the
American Welding Society. These symbols are an integral part of the graphic language
by which the engineer or designer communicates to the welder on the job. A com-
plete section of this material recognizes the importance of these symbols and their
proper use and interpretation.
Acknowledgment is due and appreciation is expressed to the following indi-
viduals and organizations for their contributions to the development of this material.
To the American Welding Society for permission to use and
adapt illustrations and technical data from their publication,
Welding Symbols, AWS A2.1-58.
To Hobart Brothers Company, Troy, Ohio and to Lincoln
Electric Company, Cleveland, Ohio for supplying illustrative
material and technical review of the content.
To Joseph T. Ryerson and Son, Inc., Chicago, Ilinois, for
permission to use data on structural steel sizes.
To Lawrence Grady, draftsman, Simmons Machine Tool
Company, Albany, New York, for the preparation of finished
drawings,
